My Christmas Wishlist 2021

There are lots of lovely lists I’ve seen lately, recommending gifts for our loved ones. Rather than a general list, I’m going to share my personal wishlist….

Foodie Books

I’m not much of a chef, neither ambitious nor sophisticated. I love wholesome, rich, comforting dishes and I love growing my own food or foraging – mainly for the purposes of making gin and jam.

So this year, I’m hoping for several books to guide me in my culinary exploits.

The Forager’s Calendar – because until now I’ve been limited to berries in the late summer and early autumn and wild garlic in spring. I’m really scared of mushroom picking too.

The Hedgerow Cookbook – because once I’ve gathered my foraged foods, it might be interesting to do something more with them than my usual jellies and gins.

Slow Cooker Heaven – I love my Ninja Foodie, it does a million things, including replacing my old slow cooker. I do chillis, curries and casseroles galore but some new dishes to inspire the family would be great.

Kitchen Stuff

We’re planning some big changes to our kitchen over the next couple of years, but that’s going to take a long time to sort out. So in the mean time, I want a few new bits and bobs.

Lovely Cath Kidston Oven Gloves

Beautiful Emma Bridgewater plate for serving mince pies over Christmas

New Mugs and Coasters and Coffee

All my crockery in the kitchen is Denby Greenwich, except for a rather battered set of red mugs. So I’ve had my eye on a set of 6 of these for ages.

Coffee-based gifts all the way! Some “gourmet” coffee and some new coasters (mine seem to have disappeared lately).

Literature

Well that might be going a bit far!

Twelve Patients – I’ve watched and loved all of the New Amsterdam medical drama series. It’s been particularly heart-breaking at times but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. This is what the series is based on though, and I’m keen to read it.

Go Tell the Bees that I Am Gone – I’m a bit Outlander fan. After watching the first series on Amazon I steamed through all the books I could and have always picked up new ones quite soon after they’re published.

Travel

We’re going to be able to travel again one day right? May be even travel out of the country? To France? For three weeks?

Well, we can but dream! and prepare…. My old washbag must be almost 20 years old. I swear I bought it at Stansted Airport duty free when I was travelling out to Strasbourg during the last year of my degree. So, I fancy a new one.

This is my pick:

Travel Hanging Toiletry Wash Bag Makeup Cosmetic Organizer for Women Girls Kids (Blue Leaf (Medium))

Comfort

I am all about the comfort these days. With winter here and working from home and my miserly approach to heating (off if I’m here on my own), I need some lovely warm bits and bobs.

Crocodile Socks – just because they look so much fun!

Snuggly Jumper – I love Weird Fish clothes, always funky and functional.

Running

I’m being very restrained this year. Partly because I’ve had a few treats from Badass Mother Runners in the last couple of months and partly because I feel like I’ve got almost all the kit I could want. However, shoes wear out. My two pairs of Brooks Adrenaline 21 GTS I got at Easter are almost at the 600km mark and probably nearly past it. So I went to my local running shop in November and got some New Balance foamy things and a Christmas present pair of something else, which I’ve dutifully kept in their box. Bet you can guess what they are – it’s very predictable.

How about you?

What are you hoping to get for Christmas? Tell me all!

Love from Smell xxx

  1. I don’t think I even realised New Amsterdam was based on a book. I love the TV series so I want to read that book now, too. I’ll have to add that to my own wish list along with the colourful coasters, which are quite possibly the most beautiful coasters I’ve seen before.

Those crocodile socks are very funky – you come across some really cool things!

I hope you either get gifted a few of these or can treat yourself after Christmas. It’ll be even better if you find something in the boxing day / NY sales 🤞

  2. I love those mugs! Other than a new tattoo, I don’t really have anything specific on my list. My husband manages to gift the most thoughtful things though and seems to find the things I didn’t even know I wanted! I’m not such a great gift giver so I just go with what he tells me, haha! Have a wonderful Christmas!

  3. Wonderful wish list. I didn’t wait for Santa. I bought my own copy of Tell the Bees…. I am about 1/2 way through the book. It is wonderful, as expected. Wishing you and your family all the blessings of the holiday season.

  4. I love the crocodile socks and the slow cooker cookbook. I just bought a new slow cooker and it’s about 50% bigger than my old one. I’m looking for some new soup recipes to try over the winter.

There’s not a lot on my wishlist this year. Mainly, I’m just hoping we don’t get COVID.
