Soundtrack silenced
Senses heightened
Birdsong and blowing leaves an accompaniment
To the rhythm
Of trainers tapping on tarmac.
Yeah, so that’s what happens when you don’t charge your Bluetooth headphones before a long run and their battery dies half way through. I stuck them in my pocket, enjoyed the birdsong and the security of hearing cars approaching when they were much further off but also totally lost my mojo and hated the rest of the run.
So much so that I composed the above nonsense in my head while running. Sorry. There was more but I’d forgotten it by the time I got home.

I walk in the countryside every day with my dog, and always wonder why some people are walking or running wearing headphones. I would hate to have music disturbing the sounds of nature. Wind in the trees, the river running, and the rustling of deer in the denser undergrowth. The tapping of a woodpecker, that first call of a cuckoo, or the tweeting of tiny birds.
Many thanks for following my blog.
Best wishes, Pete.

The sounds of the nature are beautiful. When I’m running though, I like the rhythm and something upbeat to motiviate me – rather than make me stop and wonder (which I lovely but disruptive to the running thing).

Understood. I am not a runner, more of a ‘brisk walker’. ๐

Oh boy. I know the feeling of battery dying on you.
The poem is a good attempt though ๐๐

Sounds blissful. I’m not a big fan of running in headphones and I’m sure I’d just end up getting run over!

I needed music initially to stop my mind wandering to dark places. I tend to remove at least one on narrow lanes so I can hear what’s behind me. But sometimes an awful run can completely turn around if a fab tune comes one.

That’s right, you can hear the birds chirping, and peacefulness when you aren’t drowning out the world with music, but music is nice too! =)

I prefer to run without music. I find it more relaxing. ๐

When I started I needed it to stop my thoughts wandering to dark places. Now it just feels strange without it.

That’s so annoying that your headphones run out! But I love the poem, it flows so nicely xx

Ahh thatโs annoying! I used to love running to really good songs but listening to birdsong is lovely too.

A good upbeat song can do wonders for a slow and drudging run.
